Santouka- Cupertino, CA

Hidden inside the Mitsuwa marketplace, is Santouka, a small ramen kitchen, usually a decently long line, and a shared seating area. Don’t be fooled by its appearance, Santouka is one of my favorite ramen places in the South Bay. Handmade ramen noodle, delicious broth , and plenty of pork, bamboo, and green onion to eat with every bite! I’m gettin hungry just writing about it 😛

Best part? Get the combo meal for lunch and it’ll come with a rice bowl of your choice (pork, salmon roe, soybean) to eat for dinner. Yup, it’s the gift that keeps on giving.

Samovar tea lounge – SF

Brenda, this is for you!! 😀 our market research begins!!

Case #1 : Samovar Tea Lounge

Theme: Moorish (hah!) Middle Eastern, Fusion

Look/feel: Trendy, clean, comfort on a scale of 1-10….6; good ambience, complemented overall theme

Menu: smart decor… lots of choices!  Food: on scale of 1-10….7.  It’s pretty darn good, special, things you won’t be able to make at home (unless you $$$ on ingredients + time) and though I’m untrained, seemed pretty authentic hah…

Tea: 2 samples: Masala Chai and Russian Tea?  not the most impressive in my book, but slightly more serious about their tea…on a scale of 1-10… 7 as well

Crowd: A good mix, including older people, families, yuppies, and will note that  we saw a naked man and a condom balloon that day…

Location: excellent!

Price: Reasonable… on a scale of $- $$$$, I’d say….$$

Additional thoughts: Seems very capital intensive.  Set up was awesome, took you someplace else, but wasn’t the most comfortable, and didn’t seem like it was easy for the servers to move around either.  A great place to try, and dine every so often, but not the look and feel I’d want to recreate.  Teas were interesting, I didn’t try anything that i would outwardly recognize and actually be able to evaluate, but variety was amazing, and it all seemed authentic.

掛包 – Fusion house

Coconuts Fish Cafe – Kihei, HI

Fish tacos are in no way a rarity on Maui, but Coconuts Fish Cafe stands out.  Homemade coleslaw made with fresh coconut milk, fish grilled to your liking, topped with mango salsa, Coconuts offer a healthy yet tasty alternative to your regular fish taco!

Say Yes! to COCO’s Chicken!

close to 2AM and i’m here blogging about food while the beast known as my stomach growls for attention.  COCO’s Chicken is Fremont’s answer to your regular old KFC, wingstop style fried chicken.  Contrasting flavors of soy, garlic, sweet n sour, spicy, numbing come together in 4 delicious flavors.  and it DOES matter what order you eat them in, always start with the mildest and work your way up. 😉

valentine’s 2012

valentine's 2012

i never know what to think

when i’m told there is but 1 day a year

where you tell me you love me

and will always want me

i wish i could say this was 24/7/365

but then we’d all be penniless and fat

happy valentine’s day!

au coeur

to the heart

from the heart
